Am I scared? Yes. Anything that ever starts, starts with one. And if I have to be the one then I have to be the one.” ~Kindra Arnesan

3 June 2010—Venice, Louisiana (CNN)—Kindra Arnesen’s husband often calls while he’s out on a shrimping trip, so she wasn’t surprised to hear her cell phone ring the night of April 29 while he was on an overnight fishing expedition.

However, this time, her husband, David, wasn’t calling to tell her about the day’s catch or to wish their children Aleena and David Jr. a good night. He was calling to tell her he was sick, and the strange thing about it, so were men on the seven other shrimping boats working near his.

Arnesen believes it was vapors from the oil and the dispersants from the BP Gulf oil disaster that made her husband and the other shrimpers sick. She says they were downwind of it, and the smell was “so strong they could almost taste it.”

But now Arnesen, a 32-year-old ”uneducated housewife“—her words—is breaking her silence and is encouraging others in her community do the same.  Continue reading at CNN.

  1. RANDY says:

There is a big difference between education [knowledge] and wisdom, this woman has great courage and wisdom. Knowledge is learned through memorization, Wisdom is learned through experience. Kindra should be very proud for carrying and raising such a high torch of light to awaken the masses. She seems to have much knowledge to share with all of us. What they are teaching in the education system is Antiquity knowledge any ways…so onward Kindra and share your Wisdom and knowledge!

  2. Bart Meays says:

Wow, If we don’t think the corporations have taken over this country we need to wake up. First is was the Financial Institution raping the country and now this. It is time for our two Parties to wake up and stop being bought and begin to work together for real solutions. Was there one Republican(my party) vote in favor of Financial reform? I am ashamed.

  3. Judy says:

We all need to not only wake up, but SPEAK UP. We’ve been too complacent for too long, and have allowed these jokers in Washington and corporate America to do whatever they choose, as long as they pretty much “left us alone”. It’s time to say “enough is enough”, and take back our country! Speak up and vote, and tell Washington that they can either start doing what’s best for US, or get out!
